Public Forum

Welcome to PF!

Event Description:

Public Forum is a partnered debate based around current events. This specific debate type is a spectator event - everyone should be able watch and understand the contents of the round. Oftentimes, community members are recruited to judge this event and may have minimal knowledge on certain issues, depending on the topic of the month, which can range from GMOs to the Sahel region of Africa. Thus, the ability to convince and persuade anyone, regardless of whether the judge is community or experienced, is the Public Forum debater's pride. Additionally, PF has the shortest speech times and least number of speeches out of the three main debate events. Due to this, debaters need to quickly simplify complicated issues down to main components as eloquently as possible. Furthermore, because PF is a partner event, students competing must be able to work with another and create a well balanced team.
