Lincoln Douglas Debate

Description:

Lincoln Douglas Debate (LD) is a 1 on 1 debate that revolves around moral issues. Topics usually revolve around what we ought to do or why ceratin actions may be justified.  Novice Debaters must become well versed in simple philosophy and how it relates to our actions. Varsity debaters are typically well versed in a variety of philosphy regarding morality and justice, and how those interact and effect our everyday lives. Keeping up with current events is not a must but definately a plus. Since LD is single person, being focused and driven is necessary to succeed, as well as being able to identitfy your own weakpoints, and allowing others to criticize you for improvement.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

LD Leadership:

Becky Cai (The Captain): Becky Cai is a senior with four years of speech, debate, and 5 pound bags of Swedish fish under her belt. She's the Lincoln-Douglas captain this year, and is so excited to help the best debaters (LD'ers) conquer their fears, the state, even the WORLD!!! Just kidding, she's not allowed to do that anymore. Becky's practices may include drills with water guns, pen-talking, and homemade pie. They'll also include personalized advice, expertise from several Nationals competitors and State Champions, and dedication to making each team member their personal best.

Benjamin Reidys (LD Specialist):

Ben Reidys is a senior in his third year of Debate, with two of those in LD.  As Debate Czar and LD specialist this year Ben hopes to help both varsity and novice debaters improve their skills and argue cases better than ever before. With experience on both the local and national circuits, and LD camp, Ben is a great source for obscure arguments, and framework debating. Working with the LD captain this year, Ben would like to encourage speaking drills, pre-writing turns, and evidence, evidence, and more evidence.
