Humorous Interpretation (HI)

Event Description:

Humorous Interpretation is a memorized, performance

based event adapted from prewritten works (i.e. books,

plays, novellas, etc.).  Humorous Interps are generally

regarded as facetious and funny.  Like other Interp events,

HI features a single presenter, a ten minute time limit (with a 30 second grace period), and no props.  Blocking (use of movements to fabricate imaginary props) specific to HI is called 'popping' due to the quick and snappy nature of movements used to facilitate moments of comedic timing.  Humorous Interps do not typically use crude, racially offensive, sexually derisive, or controversial topics to get a laugh.

Note: participants do not actually have to be funny to do HI, though a sense of humor is preferable.
